As a momma on a budget {like I know many of you are} I am always on the lookout for a good deal. Often times, though, it is hard to feel fashionable when having to shop on a strict budget and feeling frustrated after you've scoured dozens of clearance racks only to come up empty handed. This is why I am so happy to introduce to you all today

And make sure that when you're done reading Amber's post that you hop on over to her blog where I am answering some questions and unleashing my inner fashionista {lol}.

Hello Momma's like me readers. My name is Amber and I am the blogger behind Sneakers Over Stilettos. I am a Momma to Ethan and Peyton, photographer and self proclaimed shoe addict. Oh and let's not forget clothing and jewelry obbsessed.
I thought I would take guest posting in a bit of a different direction and talk about and show what I love about Vintage shopping. And how we use it as a tool to teach our kids about recycling.
In our household we are a family of recyclers. We do just about everything we can to do our part in helping keep our earth green. We recycle 90% of our waste. Ethan, Peyton and I walk everywhere! And another thing we do is shop at a lot of vintage and thrift stores for clothes. Not only is it much more cost effective, but we feel that it is teaching Ethan {and eventually Peyton} much more then recycling our food waste can help the environment.
Ethan has such a purity about keeping ''his planet'' green. He is not afraid to lecture a stranger on why littering is bad. And he is always so proud when he does something good for the environment when recycling or up cycling something. Its a trait that I want to make sure he holds on to not only because I can feel that he is still so innocent and it helps me to see the world in his way a little more often. But I also it stays with him, so that one day maybe he will be one of those people that finds a way to make the earth a little more healthier.
I realize as Momma's we don't always have time to scour racks in a vintage shop. I use to be like that as well. Until I started doing the math and realizing how much I was spending on one outfit. Some of these outfits were under $15. After I realized that I was pretty motivated to make enough time to scour then thrift or vintage shopping. To make it less over whelming, only look at the items you are shopping for. I am a big dress fan, so when I go I rarely ever look at anything but the dresses.
By buying second hand a little more we teach Ethan that we are saving these clothes from ending up in a landfill. And if you shop at certain shops all the proceeds go to charity. Another thing we teach him is that buying thrift or vintage it is a little more resourceful then just automatically heading to a mall or other big box store.
Of course we don't 100% shop vintage. But there is something about finding a unique piece that not everyone else will have makes it more fun for me to shop this way.
To show what amazing finds are out there I narrowed down 5 of my favorite outfits. It was hard to narrow it down, I have found so many great pieces that I will never part with.

This is by far one of my favorite finds.
Mac and Jac Dress: $2.50 This dress was one of my favorite finds, it was a brand new sample dress, I found about 6 other different samples along with it. And then when I got to the till I found out it was 50% off dresses day. I think in the end I paid $15 for 6 dresses.
Shoes: $8
Necklace:$2
Total: $12.50
While I normally don't really care who made the dress. I will admit I was pretty excited to be taking home dresses from this line!

Dress: $3.99
Boots: $10
Total: $13.99

I love how verstile these boots are. I have worn them so many different ways. These boots were actually bought buy Jason on a solo thrift trip. I have worn this dress in a few different ways, I have worn it backwards to change it up, and I have created gathers in the skirt. If you plan on doing that always wear leggings under kneath!
Dress: $4.99
Rain Coat: $4.99
Boots: $8.99
Total: $19 So this out fit was a little over $15 as I promised they all were, but still not to bad.

Please don't mind that its dark out. I only had time to take photos after Ethan Peyton were asleep on this particular day.
This is another find that I got really excited about. I found this Wilfred silk dress for $4! I bought it while pregnant with Peyton, but now I just belt it.
Shoes: $3
Scarf belt: $2
Total: $9!!
That makes up for the slight overage on my previous outfit.

Hat: Free! We frequent one of our shops so often that when I asked the price of this hat, they just gave it to me!
Top: $2
Jeggings: $4 I don't normally wear jeggings as pants, but I wanted to show off these boots and couldn't find my regular skinny jeans.
Boots: $6 These boots are my newest find, and I love them! I wear them everywhere and they are so comfy.
Bracelet: $1 This is actually one of Peyton's head bands, but I wear it sometimes to do something different and add some color.
Total: $13
So there you have it some of my favorite finds. Thank you Lacee and Momma's like me readers for taking the time to see why I love vintage! Hope you will come check out my blog when you have the time!
xoxo Amber
