DIY Antique Jewelry Holder

Recently, in an ongoing quest to complete a list of house hold projects, I had been searching for a perfect and unique way to organize and store my necklaces. I absolutely hate when I go to put on a necklace only to find them all in a tangled heap in my jewelry box. I had found several really great ideas while searching on Pinterest, but I wanted to create something unique, functional, and that had my own personal touch.

I love all things old, antique and shabby looking and since moving I have started to really lean towards this style in my decorating. I love being able to look at a piece of furniture and know there is a story behind it. So while browsing around one of my favorite local antique stores I came across this beauty...

Yes, I said BEAUTY.
It's old, peely, chipped and distressed...just how I like it! The lady I bought it from said she salvaged it from an old barn and that it was more than likely a piece from an old door of some sort. I immediately had the glorious vision of turning this into my jewelry holder! {Side note** I swear that I could be a picker...ya know, like Mike and Frank from the show American Pickers? I love finding "treasures" then re-vamping them into something fabulous!} I searched high and low for the perfect knobs to attach that would hold my necklaces and ended up scoring these lovelies at the ol' Hob Lob...

Now I originally wanted little glass knobs but when I saw these I fell in love and thought they would compliment the piece beautifully. Next, I put the hubby to work and had him attach the knobs to the door. He simply marked the places where the knobs would go, drilled holes in each of the marks he made, inserted the screws from the back side, screwed on the knobs, then attached saw-tooth hangers to the back.

Then it was ready to hang on the wall and hold my pretties!

{My bookcase turned shoe case will be getting a makeover soon too!}

I LOVE IT!!
Total cost of this project was:
$25 for the antique door {actually free for me since I used a gift card I had received...YAY!}
$6 for the knobs from Hobby Lobby {they were on sale for %50 off!}

So overall this project only cost me $6!!!!
SCORE!!!!

I may or may not put an old antique door knob where the original one is missing. I can't decide yet...what do you think?

Lacee

*******************************************************************************

Hello lovelies!
I am so very happy to spend the day here with each of you.
Lacee is just absolutely the sweetest & I am honored to meet her readers.
I am the blogger behind The Miller's.

This is me, Jazmin!
I {heart} clearance racks, crafting, tea, making lists, any recipe with the word easy or crockpot in it, taking pictures, staying organized in a life with two messy toddlers, vacuum lines, rare date nights with my hottie and blogging!

I started my blog to share & capture precious bits of my families little fairy tale.
Which include: silly stories, crafty tutorials, precious milestones, faith adventures and random life perspectives with y'all!
I welcome you to sit & stay a while. We'd love to have you.

Today I'm going to share the latest crafty thing I've been up to.
A lovely earring holder.

The best thing about this project was I already had every supply in my craft box.
So it was FREE.
An old 8x10 picture frame, ribbon, acrylic paint, hot glue gun, paint brushes.
You can actually use whatever kind of picture frame you want.
& instead of ribbon you could use string or wire, it's whatever works. :o)

Give the frame a couple coats of paint with whatever paint brushes you have handy.
I also glued on a few rosettes.
Here's a tutorial for those.

Next, I took ribbon & laid it across the back of the frame.
I measured each piece 12" long and tied a knot at each end.
Added a dot of hot glue to knot and pressed it onto the edges of the frame until the glue dried.
This is what the back looks like.

I pretty much leveled each sectioned with my eye.
As far as space in between each ribbon I did about 1/4" between the first two & then 2" between the rest.
If you want to be super precise, by all means, use a ruler. ;)

And you're done! This is such a quick & easy project.
I had a lot of fun putting it together.
Thanks for taking a look.
Let me know if you try it.
You'll have a lovely new jewelry storage + pretty room accessory!

AND guess what!?
I actually made 2 of these.
I am giving one away to a lucky

No Sew Fleece Tie Blanket {Tutorial}

One of my absolute favorite things to make and giveaway as gifts are no sew fleece tie blankets. They are so easy to make and are super soft, warm and cuddly. These blankets also wash beautifully and make a great baby shower gift or a nice present for just about anyone...even guys like them!

Here are a few pics of ones that I have made...

Whaddya say we make one together mmmk?

Here's what you'll need:

*Fleece Fabric
I usually buy my fabric at JoAnns but another great website I've ordered from is Pico Textiles
I also like to use two different prints, one for the front and one for the back but that is optional
For a baby blanket I use 1 yard
For a toddler blanket I use 1 1/2 yards
For an adult blanket I use 2 yards
*Tape measure
*Straight pins
*4x4 square template
*Rotary cutter {I use one with a pinking blade} or scissors
*Self healing mat if using a rotary cutter

Step 1:
Lay down your first piece of fleece so that the wrong side of the fabric is facing up. Then lay your next piece of fleece on top with the right side facing up

Step 2:
Slide your self healing mat {if you are using one} under your fabric and cut off the selvage edges of the fabric. If you are using a rotary cutter with a pinking edge you will want to cut all 4 sides of the blanket so they match. If you are just using scissors or a regular rotary cutter you only have to cut off the selvage edges unless there is a large discrepancy between the fabrics on the other sides.

Step 3:
Take your 4x4 square template and pin it to one of the corners then cut the square out.

Your blanket should then look like this with all four corners cut out. Notice that one of the edges is a little uneven? Don't sweat it, one you're finished you won't even be able to tell.

Step 4:
Now take your tape measure and lay it across your blanket to mark off where you will cut your fringes like so

Pin the tape measure down using your straight pins to hold it in place

Step 5:
Using your tape measure as a guide of where to stop, begin to cut strips about 1 to 1 1/2 inches wide into you fabric

Repeat steps 4 & 5 on the other 3 sides of the blanket. When you're done it should look like this

Step 6:
Separate the top piece of fringe from the bottom piece and tie the two pieces together in a double knot

Repeat this process around the entire blanket, then step back and admire your work cause baby you're done!

With winter just right around the corner, this would be the perfect warm, cozy gift for someone you love. But be sure to make one for yourself too...oh and for your kids and your hubby otherwise they'll just end up stealing yours ;)

Lacee
